What do we understand by character?

The character of a person consists of a set of features or expressions that manifest in their general way of acting. It tells us to what individualizes it, so it can be said that they are those components that express their way of being and behave in a particular and distinctive way.

How character is formed

Character actually means brand (engraved), which suggests a deep and fixed thing, perhaps innate, a basic structure. But character is not really rigid that is brought to birth, but It is affected deeply by the environment, the culture and the social environment where each person is formed.

Thus, character is a component that is strongly influenced by everything that surrounds us such as education, the social and family environment, friendships, co -workers, etc. Some authors say that character does not end up forming until the end of adolescence. For me it is something that is modified throughout life, to a greater or lesser extent, depending on the effort of each.

It is important to clarify that It is not the same character as temperament, The latter is based on the biological aspects of the character and is linked to the physiology of each one, with genetic factors that significantly influence the social behaviors of individuals (whether it is man or woman, high or low, thick or thin ...). The character, on the other hand, is the set of merely psychological aspects, which are molded with education and habits, and allow a reaction from the individual to experiences. We must also point out that character is closely linked to temperament and acts as a consequence of it in most people.

What components create our character

For the creation of the character, three basic components are necessary:

  • Emotivity: which is the emotional reaction of the individual in front of the events.
  • Activity: Inclination of the person to respond to a certain stimulus.
  • Resonance: Answer that someone emits in front of an event.

Worry about everything is not part of the character

Each of us can describe ourselves in many different ways, actually character is something that adopts multiple forms and, in part, is quite subjective. Thus, there are people who define themselves as suffering. Consider concern as an internal feature of their character. And not only do they torment themselves with this irrational and exaggerated idea, but they also often move this fear of the people around. They ask, or even demand, to receive constant news to achieve their own tranquility and, without realizing, they can make others responsible for their suffering.

On a social level, worrying about foreign welfare is considered a sign of interest and delivery towards others. Possibly for this reason those who identify with this quality proclaim it even with pride: "I am like that, I cannot avoid it".

In part this statement is accurate. When trying to eliminate a concern from the mind, the opposite result is often obtained: This intensifies. Trying to think about what worries one, that is, the problems that these thoughts are produced, striving to not think, it is an extremely difficult task, the more we strive on it, the more present are our ruminations and Before a multitude of painful thoughts will appear.

Try to suppress the ideas that generate anguish, therefore, it does not imply a true solution. That is why in the end the person believes that concern is something irremediable and superior to it, which is its character. But no, it's not like that. The good news is that this impression is not true, we can all do something to change.
