Amak's syndrome, homicide anger

Amak's syndrome comes from a Malay word that means'attack and kill with blind anger'. His name is because it was in Malaysia where this phenomenon was first observed.

In fact, in the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy, Amok is defined as "Among the Malaysian, attack of homicide madness".

Amok syndrome

According to the psychologist Agostina Ventura, in her mass homicidal study, the syndrome is described as a set of behaviors characterized by a Sudden explosion of aggressive behavior that leads to injury and death, both of the other and the aggressor.

In the field of psychiatry, Amak's syndrome is associated with culture and consists of a sudden and spontaneous explosion of Wild rage, which leads to the affected person to run armed and madly, with desires for attack and mate or indiscriminately hurt the animals or people who are crossed. This occurs until the subject suicide or is immobilized.

The word amok, as described, comes from the Malaysian "Meng -âmok", which It translates as 'Kill and attack with blind anger'. Therefore, they were called 'without control'.

Therefore, Amok describes a series of behaviors in which there is an unexpected explosion of aggressive behaviors that lead to the death or injury of others, and the aggressor itself.

The first who realized that this existed were the individuals of the culture of Malaysia and other similar places such as Asia, the West and in the Pacific.

However, more than a particular homicide, Amok is about mass murder who is often committed by a man who has spent time in social isolation and has felt melancholic. The agitation that said subject experiences ends in the attempt or murder of several people.

One of the first stories about Amok, or about the out of control in the west, came from Captain Cook, in 1770 and, although it was described in the literature near the twentieth century, the truth is that the behavior of The 'without brake' was already well known in Malaysia for several centuries.

Nevertheless, The definition itself was released by the American psychiatrist Joseph Westermeyeren, in 1972.

According to literature in psychiatry, the homicidal attack is preceded by a period of concern, moderate depression and grief.

At present, and in some recent cases, it is possible to notice how the authors of the attacks announce them through the Internet.

After attack lThe person is completely exhausted, exhausted, many times with complete amnesia and, in many cases, ends up committing suicide.

Amok syndrome and mass murderers

Many times, mass murderers are associated with this amok syndrome, as well as sometimes they are linked to posttraumatic stress, especially the one suffered by some ex -attached who have suffered traumatic experiences in battle. However, these last cases are usually cataloged as "War psychosis".

The World Health Organization describes Amak's syndrome as "a random episode, apparently not caused, of a murderous or destructive behavior of others, followed by amnesia and/or exhaustion". Sometimes it is accompanied by a turn that ends in a self -destructive behavior, that is, to cause injuries, amputations or end in suicide.

In the case of the DSM-IV, Amak's syndrome is described as a cultural syndrome, describing it as "a dissociative episode characterized by a period of depression followed by a manifestation of aggressive, violent or homicidal behavior, aimed at objects or people".

The episode is triggered by a perception of the person who leads him to consider that he is lacking respect or insults him And it seems more common among men.

This episode is also frequently accompanied by paranoid ideas, amnesia, automatism, exhaustion and return to the premorbid state after the episode.

On many occasions, the amok can appear during a brief psychotic episode or be the beginning of a state of exacerbation of a chronic psychotic process.

Although the original reports used this term in Malaysia, the truth is that similar behavior patterns have been found in Laos, Polynesia, Philippines, Papua, New Guinea, and even In Puerto Rico, where he is called "Fight Bad".

In the field of criminology, this term is associated with many mass murderers, who are considered to suffer from this syndrome and it is believed that the subjects are accumulating tension due to different causes, accompanied by concern, depression and desolation. After spending time accumulating tension, they begin to issue signs that they will produce an attack.

Thus, a day arrives, in which after so much accumulated tension, and having strategically planned their action, they proceed to accommodate the attack of rabies in a wild way.

That is why, who suffer from Amok's syndrome, are usually armed and begin to hurt, attack and kill indiscriminately to those who cross their way. Everything ends when the subject is arrested or suicide.
